Mission & Board of Directors


Mission Statement:

Our MISSION is to unify our profession, educate and serve our members and protect the holistic nutrition professional’s right to practice. We aim to accomplish this by building integrity and credibility through a national certification process based on high educational standards and a rigorous code of ethics.

NANP was originally founded in 1985 as the Society of Certified Nutritionists, and relies on financial support through professional and student membership dues, and by sponsorships from organizations dedicated to the principles of holistic health and education.

Julie Spero, MBA, NC
INTERIM PRESIDENT 2012

Julie Spero, MBA, NC is a Certified Nutrition Consultant and past Treasurer for the National Association of Nutrition Professionals. She is in private practice specializing in hard to resolve health issues, including Lymes, hormonal imbalance, & digestive disorders. Certified as a Natural Chef from Bauman College, she regularly volunteers as chef for the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco, which despite the affiliation is an amazing organization. Julie is certified in AcuPoint Integrative Nutritional Testing from Dan Newell, AP, MS, CN and received her M.B.A. from St. Mary’s College in Moraga.

Miriam Zacharias, PhD

Miriam Zacharias holds a PhD in Holistic Nutrition, an MS in Human Ecology, is a trained Business Coach and has spent more than a decade coaching individuals towards healthier, more active lifestyles. As a licensed Sports Nutritionist, Mir has a keen understanding of sports nutrition, weight management, race recovery/detoxification protocols and exercise physiology with a special passion for helping every day triathletes cross the finish line healthy and strong.

Shannon Montoya, NC

Shannon Montoya, NC is a recent Graduate of Bauman College’s Nutrition Consultant program. She is currently getting her business started, in a small rural town in Northern California. Her focus on nutrition is food allergies & sensitivities with an emphasis on teaching allergy-free cuisine. She is currently the NANP General Assistant, and is enjoying the experience, since it works beautifully with her schedule of client education & support.

Tammera J. Karr, PhD received her PhD in Holistic Nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health and holds national board certifications through the American Association of Integrative Medicine (BCIH), American Association of Drugless Practitioners (CNH), American Association of Nutritional Counselors (CNC) and is board Certified in Nutritional Wellness (CNW) sm by the American Naturopathic Certification Board. She is also Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition®

Karen Langston, CHNP, LM, SIT

Karen Langston is an author, mentor, coach and keynote speaker. In her role as an internationally recognized Nutritionist based in Arizona she consults with clients across Canada and the US on all health matters with a special focus on digestive disorders Crohn’s Disease and the mind/body connection. She received her education at the world-renowned Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Canada and Certified Nutritional Practitioners Council of Canada. Her credentials also include Early Childhood Education Certification, Applied Holistic Nutrition degree, Certified Nutritional Practitioner, Live Cell Microscopist, Capillary Puncture Technician, Therapeutic Lifestyle Educator, Soma Therapies and Functional Medicine.

Margo Jordan Parker, OMD

Margo Jordan Parker, OMD has had a Doctorate in Oriental Medicine (OMD) since 1985. She had a ‘celebrity’ practice in Hollywood, California for many years and was featured in LIFE Magazine as one of the top people who “Keep The Stars Shining”. She had invented a technique for facial rejuvenation using micro current therapy in 1982; and later developed a device that could be used at home for facial rejuvenation. This was in the very early years of that kind of treatment in the US and she was an innovator in the field of energy medicine.

Nicole Hodson, NC is a Certified Nutrition Consultant, and is the Executive Director of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals (NANP) Nicole began her career with NANP as the Director of Credentialing through the Holistic Nutrition Credentialing Board, the credentialing arm of the organization. She then took on the role of Membership Director and has been with the NANP since early 2007.

Jane Fitzick, CNT completed the Masters Nutrition Therapy Program at NTI in Denver, CO. She is Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition, a certified yoga instructor and holds a B.A. from Rutgers University. As Nutrition Therapist, Jane's philosophy is to empower her clients with the knowledge and tools to obtain and maintain a healthy lifestyle. In addition to nutrition counseling, she consults software companies on a wide range of nutrition topics including corporate wellness programs, menu planning, and online client forms.

Danna Juarez is our membership assistant. She has been on board since March 2009. She is currently a student at American River College in Sacramento CA, and will be transferring to a university in the fall to complete her studies as a Kinesiology Major. She enjoys school, biking, and running and currently competes in the American River College Track and Cross Country teams.
